Coexistence: against all forms of racism

Born in Guadeloupe, at the age of eight he moved to France, where he discovered he was ‘black’ and would later have a stellar football career that led all the way to his participation in the French side that won the World Cup in 1998. Through these personal experiences, Lilian Thuram has developed profound ideas on diverse forms of racism and the possibilities of coexisting despite our differences, often in marginalised environments like the Parisian banlieues. His ideas centre on building the ‘other’ and transforming our collective conscience to create a future of equality for all. A long-time advocate of learning the art of living together in order to create a more just society, and to vanquish all forms of racism and inequality, he also spreads his message through his eponymous foundation, to which he has passionately dedicated his time since hanging up his football boots.
